Pumpkin Pie

Someone brought a pumpkin pie,
It was to share for morning tea.
It looked very delicious,
But I don't eat pumpkins.

Pumpkins are delicious,
Why don't you eat pumpkins?
There, you started me going,
Once upon a time, there was a World War.

Mum and Dad were children of the War.
The ships didn't come with rice.
The people ate root vegetables.
The people ate pumpkins.

For four years,
Dad said, they ate only these,
With no salt or oil.
Further more, pumpkins were for the pigs.

After the war,
Mum and Dad stopped eating pumpkins.
Once I saw barges full of pumpkins.
Dad said pumpkins were for the pig.

Pumpkins were for the pigs,
That's in my mind.
You won't catch me eating pumpkins.
Old habits are hard to change.
